The history of the name “boat on the grass”

TRADITION FOR GENERATIONS, PASSION SINCE FOREVER

The history of the name “Boat on the grass”

From generation to generation

The love for the Elbląg Canal has always been in the hearts and professional lives of our family. Grandfather Jan, who spent most of his professional life on the Elbląg Canal, was the first person to instil in us this multi-generational passion.

Initially, he sailed as a water guard on a ship which was a part of the white fleet of Adolf Tetzlaff, the creator of passenger shipping on the canal. With time, grandfather Jan took the position of the main lock keeper on the largest lock on the entire trail - the Miłomłyn Lock.

  • It was grandpa Jan who gave the inspiration and origin for the name of our company. Locking tourists, he passionately talked about a place where ”boats sail on the grass”. Saying goodbye, he asked to greet his beloved slipways from him. ”Boat on the grass” - these words are forever stuck in our hearts.
  • Grandmother Genowefa and mother Mirosława also worked on the canal, known as the Ostróda-Elbląg Canal. This instilled in us, from an early age, the passion for that unique landscape, smell, places remembered from childhood and details which haven't changed over the years to this day.
  • This is how the passion for the Elbląg Canal turned into the creation of a brand called “Boat on the grass” from the words that we so often heard in our childhood. Today, thanks to our fascination, commitment and affection for this part of the world, we would like to offer you the one and only cruise on dry land.
  • Our goal is to organise safe, comfortable and as unique as the slipways themselves cruises by “Boat on the grass”. Taking care of the top quality of our services, we have patented our brand “Boat on the grass” and reserved the name and the logo.
